Insurance Information

I am an out-of-network counselor, which means I do not bill insurance directly for appointments. Some insurance policies allow for partial reimbursement for out-of-network charges. I encourage you to reach out to your insurance to find out what benefits might be available for you. I can provide a Superbill for you to submit to your insurance company if you qualify for partial reimbursement.

I am out-of-network for a couple of reasons that I am happy to explain when we meet. Most importantly, a mental health diagnosis is required for any insurance claims. Some people choose not to submit claims to insurance because they do not want a mental health diagnosis included in their medical record. One option is to charge appointments to an MSA (medical savings account), an HSA (health savings account), or an FSA (flex spending account). This is something an employer, a bank or an accountant can help you set up.

Another concern is that by paneling with insurance and submitting claims on your behalf, your carrier participates in decisions about your care, such as which services can be provided and for how long. This removes control of your care from the collaborative process I prefer to engage with clients. I follow a wellness model rather than a medical model, therefore, I believe your input in development of a treatment plan with goals and outcomes should be managed by you and me, not an insurance company.

Payment Options

Charges are processed through the secure client portal. I accept cash, major credit cards, MSA, HSA, and FSA as payment.

Cancellation Policy

Your time is set aside for you. To avoid being charged the full session fee, contact me as soon as you realize you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, and no later than 24 hours in advance. This allows those who are hoping for a last minute appointment due to  unexpected circumstances the time to plan for taking a cancellation appointment.

No Surprises Billing Act of 2022

The No Surprises Billing Act is intended to protect consumers from unexpected medical bills when they receive services from out-of-network providers. This primarily applies to emergency services and certain non-emergency situations including psychotherapy. You are entitled to a Good Faith Estimate of the total cost of any non-emergency services that will not be billed through insurance. For more information about the law visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises
